Developing Low-Cost Organic Solar Cells and Transistors

John Anthony, a chemistry professor at the University of Kentucky, works with organic materials - using carbon instead of silicon. With grants from the U.S. Navy, National Science Foundation, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, and a number of industrial sponsors, Anthony's research focuses on organic solar cells, organic thin-film transistors, and organic light-emitting diodes. Outrider Technologies, a company co-founded by Anthony and CEO John Beran in 2005, develops organic semiconductors for the electronics industry. They have recently been able to put transistors, basically integrated circuits, on saran wrap.
