Catheter Provides Real-Time, 3D Intracardiac Ultrasound View
The Live Volumetric Imaging (LVI) catheter, developed by researchers at RTI International, provides a real-time, three-dimensional ultrasound view from inside the heart. As envisioned with this animation, a volumetric view of the beating heart can be rotated using a 3D ultrasound imaging system to display any arbitrary orientation within or around the volume, without any repositioning of the imaging catheter. One application for LVI technology is cardiac ablation for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. Image guidance using LVI can provide better visualization of the endocardial tissue to help improve accuracy of treatment and minimize unintended injury.
