PETMAN Robot Tests Chemical Protective Clothing
PETMAN, an anthropomorphic robot developed by Boston Dynamics with funding from the DoD, is seen here testing the performance of protective clothing designed for hazardous environments. Initial testing is of a chemical protection suit and gas mask. PETMAN balances itself and moves freely - walking, bending, and doing various suit-stressing calisthenics during exposure to chemical warfare agents. PETMAN can simulate human physiology within the protective suit by controlling temperature, humidity, and sweating, all to provide realistic test conditions. Sensors embedded in PETMAN's skin detect any chemicals that may leak through the suit.
