High-Resolution ISR Technology for Small UAVs
Compact Aerial Video Exploitation (CAVE) is an integrated hardware/software system from Charles River Analytics and Singular Computing. It is designed to process high-resolution video data at full video-rate onboard a small unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). A new image tracker operates almost two orders of magnitude faster and consumes less than 2% of the power of a traditional solution based on a general-purpose central processing unit. Results can yield a ~6400x improvement in speed and power overall, which can be game-changing where small UAVs – operating under significant size, weight, and power constraints – are used to collect aerial imagery for military intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR). In this video, CAVE tracks a vehicle. CAVE maintains the track through significant changes in vehicle appearance due to orientation, lighting, and scale changes.
