DARPA's Four-Legged WildCat Robot Gallops and Bounds Outdoors at 16 Mph

WildCat is a four-legged robot being developed by Boston Dynamics with funding from DARPA's Maximum Mobility and Manipulation (M3) program. This robot is an untethered variant of the Cheetah that is capable of operating outdoors. Cheetah was introduced a little over a year ago and holds the record of fastest legged robot, surpassing 29 mph. So far, WildCat has run at about 16 mph on flat terrain using bounding and galloping gaits. The eventual goal is to produce a four-legged robot that can run up to 50 mph on all types of outdoor terrain. This video shows WildCat's best performance so far.
