Unmanned Vessel to Track Adversaries' Ultra-Quiet Submarines

DARPA's Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) is developing an unmanned vessel optimized to robustly track adversaries' quiet diesel electric submarines. The independently deployed unmanned surface vessel (USV) would track the ultra-quiet submarines over thousands of miles at a fraction of the cost. ACTUV would operate under sparse remote supervisory control and safely follow the maritime 'rules of the road' for collision avoidance known as COLREGS.
