3D-Printed, Highway-Ready Car Contest Winner

The Phoenix, AZ-based automotive manufacturing company Local Motors launched their Project Redacted challenge earlier this year for the 3D printing community to design a road-ready vehicle, and has now announced a winner. The 'Reload Redacted - Swim and Sport' designs from Kevin Lo beat out over 60 other designs. Local Motors says it was chosen in part because it reflects the benefits of the company's Direct Digital Manufacturing, such as the chance at a totally customizable vehicle with removable body panels. Lo's design has a flexible foundation that can support many different styles and technology options. Local Motors plans to design, build, and sell Low Speed Electric Vehicle (LSEV) debuting in early 2016.
