Incredibly Detailed, 3D Flyover of Mars Uses NASA's HiRISE Imagery

In the past 12 years, NASA's HiRISE (High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment) camera aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter satellite has taken around 50,000 high-resolution stereo images of the Martian terrain from the planet's orbit, which can be viewed in 3D using special glasses. Now, Finnish filmmaker Jan Fröjdman has transformed HiRISE imagery into a dynamic, three-dimensional, overhead view of Mars - with no need for 3D glasses. Fröjdman stitched the images together along distinctive reference points and rendered them as frames in a video, a process that took three months to complete.
