First Terahertz Multiplexer Transmission is 100 Times Faster than Cellular
A research team led by Brown University has demonstrated, for the first time, data transmission through a terahertz multiplexer. Multiplexing is the ability to send multiple signals through a single channel and is a key feature of any voice or data communication system. The team demonstrated the transmission of two separate video signals through a terahertz multiplexer at a data rate more than 100 times faster than today's fastest cellular data networks. "This is the first time anybody has characterized a terahertz multiplexing system using actual data, and our results show that our approach could be viable in future terahertz wireless networks," said Daniel Mittleman, a professor in Brown's School of Engineering.
