'Smart' Paper Can Conduct Electricity and Detect Water Leaks

In cities and large-scale manufacturing plants, a water leak within a network of pipes can take a lot of time and effort to detect. Now, a new 'smart' paper created at the University of Washington can be employed as a switch, turning on or off an LED light or an alarm system to indicate the presence of water leaking from a pipe. Tech Briefs spoke to the creators about the innovative system, which actually began as a lab accident.
