Three-Fingered Robotic Hand Masters Rubik's Cube
Researchers from the University of Tokyo's Ishikawa Senoo Laboratory created an experimental system consisting of a high-speed vision system and a three-fingered robotic hand; the vision system can calculate the center of gravity position and angle of a Rubik's cube at 500 fps. The robotic hand manipulation consists of a total of three operations - two kinds of grasping along with a a one-face turning of the cube. By combining these three operations, all the faces can be turned. In the researchers' experiment, these three operations were performed in a row in one second, and 30 continuous operations were performed in 10 seconds.
