Anti-Fogging Coating Made from Gold Nanoparticles Harnesses Sunlight

Researchers at ETH Zurich  have developed a new durable material that will help prevent transparent surfaces like glasses, cameras, and windshields from fogging due to a sudden drop in temperature or increase in humidity. The transparent coating is made from gold nanoparticles embedded in non-conductive titanium oxide, and absorbs the infrared part of sunlight along with some visible sunlight to convert the light into heat. This heats up the surface by just a few degrees, and it is this difference in temperature that prevents fogging.
