'OpenCAV' Accelerates Autonomous Vehicle Research

Researchers at Clemson University's OpenCAV  group are creating a novel modular open-architecture, open-interface, and open-source software-based research instrument for software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop design, validation, and verification. The researchers leveraged Metamoto software for their work and the solution is powered by NVIDIA V100 GPUs. The OpenCAV instrument is comprised of augmented reality-based simulation to facilitate simulation-based-design of hardware and software for a range of connected and automated vehicle applications. It also consists of physical real-time hardware-in-the-loop validation on a full-scale vehicle retrofitted with advanced sensing, drive-by-wire, perception, connectivity, computation, and control modules.
