Multiphysics Analysis of Composite Materials

Composite materials are widely used in constructing aircraft, wind turbine blades, automobile components, boat hulls, bicycles, and safety equipment, among many other applications. The stiffness-to-weight ratio of composite materials makes them an excellent choice for these applications, but these materials introduce challenges for engineers in terms of difficult design calculations due to the complexity of anisotropic material properties. These challenges can be overcome by using computational analysis.

Today, composite materials are used in many multiphysics applications, and the complexity of design calculations has increased. Previously, engineers typically conducted structural calculations to address stiffness and strength concerns. However, engineers are now seeking to solve additional design calculations that include electromagnetic interaction, heat transfer, fluid flow, and acoustics.

In this presentation, guest speaker Kyle Koppenhoefer from AltaSim Technologies will discuss the modeling of composites, including the representative volume element approach and a structure experiencing multiphysics loading. The webinar will also include a live demo in the COMSOL Multiphysics® software and a Q&A session.
