Taming Torsionals in Today’s Commercial Vehicles

A combination of increasingly stringent emissions regulations and rising power density is pushing the torsional response of today’s internal-combustion engines to ever higher limits.

These high levels of torsional energy are creating challenges within the engine itself as well as for the equipment connected to the engine output. These challenges manifest themselves in a multitude of ways, including as harsh vibrations, bolted joint failures, spline fretting, broken shafts, etc.

This Tech Talk explores how torsional dampers and absorbers can be employed to control excessive torsional energy responses inside rotating shaft systems encountered in today’s high-performance engines.
