Tech Talks: Software

Analyzing Vibration Examples with Free Software Toolbox

Testing and development engineers need to analyze shock and vibration data through every stage of product development, manufacturing, transportation, and maintenance, but this data analysis can be complex. In this Tech Talk, an expert demonstrates the many analysis functions available to help engineers in their quest for actionable data.

Stephen Hanly, a test engineer with Mide Technology, examines how to analyze shock and vibration with the free VibrationData Toolbox. Thanks to a partnership with Tom Irvine, a leading shock and vibration expert, Mide’s enDAQ platform brings MATLAB signal analysis and structural dynamics software to those without a MATLAB license.

Steve looks at examples highlighting the following:

  • Computing a PSD from experimental data
  • Time series synthesis from a test standard
  • Using vibration response spectrums to drive product design

Other topics include the toolbox’s more than 60 analysis functions and a handbook on the elements of shock and vibration analysis.
