Coming Soon - Nonlinear Structural Mechanics Modeling

In this webinar, we will analyze the nonlinear structural behavior of a complex system by making a series of assumptions about its geometry and physical behavior. The goal is to create a mathematical model with the minimum complexity required to produce meaningful simulation results while avoiding the introduction of unnecessary computational costs.

We will build a structural model to inform the design of a blood pressure cuff, which relies on a handheld inflation bulb to generate pressure. The design of this bulb must balance material properties and dimensions so that the bulb can generate sufficient internal pressure when subjected to a compressive radial load by a clinician’s hand.

The webinar will touch on interesting effects in the model, including:

  • Hyperelastic materials
  • Materials with user-defined anisotropic stiffness
  • Explicit boundary selections to speed up meshing, probing, and contact pair definitions
  • Contact mechanics with friction
  • Modeling of gas compression through a boundary load defined by a mathematical function
  • Load ramping to aid the convergence of a quasistatic analysis
