HOSTED BY:

In-line high-resolution X-ray imaging involves the real-time capture of high-resolution X-ray images of objects in motion or within a manufacturing process. In-line imaging enables monitoring and detailed inspection of objects without disrupting their production flow, which ensures continuous throughput within the manufacturing line. The technology spans numerous industries such as manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, and electronics. For the inspection of lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery cells, in-line X-ray imaging using microfocus X-ray sources and detectors allows for the non-destructive testing of internal defects, the correct measurement of gap separation of the anode and cathode, and identification of foreign material trapped in the cell structure. By providing real-time insights, in-line X-ray imaging enhances quality-control processes, reduces waste, and accelerates production cycles.

Governments around the world are incentivizing the purchase of battery electric vehicles, and sales of internal-combustion engine vehicles will be discontinued in many countries within the next 10-15 years. Consequently, Li-ion batteries will become the major technology used to power vehicles. To meet demand, the industry must continue to push the boundaries of innovation and precision, and the integration of X-ray imaging will increasingly become essential for successful inspection. This 30-minute Webinar will look at X-ray imaging as a tool to enhance product reliability, optimize manufacturing processes, and maintain the highest standards of quality assurance.

An audience Q&A session will follow the technical presentation.

Speaker:

Simon Whitbread, Technology Specialist, X-ray, Hamamatsu Photonics UK Ltd.

Simon Whitbread, who serves as Hamamatsu’s X-ray Technology Specialist, has worked for the company for nearly 20 years and for most of that time has specialized in the X-ray NDT application space. He has been the principal technology and market specialist for UK business development of Hamamatsu's X-ray products since 2008. Simon’s broad physics education has enabled him to become a company-wide X-ray imaging specialist and develop an industry-respected understanding of the technical requirements of a range of X-ray imaging applications. He has been involved in numerous projects with Hamamatsu's customers, developing bespoke X-ray imaging components for both large OEM's and individual specialized projects.
