Choosing Two-Leg Versus Three Leg Control
When an industrial application requires a thermal system with a large amount of energy, three-phase heaters are used due in part to the reduced current per leg as well as the increased efficiency of three phase over single phase. Logically controlling electricity flow to this type of heater requires a device that switches all three legs. In many cases, switching two of the three legs results in overall higher performance and a lower investment in a thermal system.
“Choosing two-leg versus three-leg control” looks at the options for controlling a three-phase heater and helps system designers make the right control choice.
Watlow designs and manufactures industrial heaters, temperature sensors, controllers and supporting software as well as assemblies – all of the components of a thermal system. The company partners with its customers to optimize thermal performance, decrease design time and improve efficiency of their products and applications.
