The Johnson Space Center offers a Mathcad computer program that largely automates the design and analysis of the restraint layer of an inflatable vessel. Prior to the development of this program, the design task was performed by use of a difficult-to-use spreadsheet program that required manual addition of rows and columns, depending on the numbers of strap rows and columns of a given design.

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory has developed a diamond turning process that makes it possible to fashion crystalline materials into whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) resonators that have ultrahigh resonance quality factors, are compact, and support single electromagnetic modes. The largely automated, computer-controlled nature of the process allows for mass production of nominally identical single-mode WGM resonators.

PlanetaryBalloon Version 5.0 is a software package for the design of meridionally lobed planetary balloons. The software allows for the design of constant angle, constant radius, or constant hoop stress balloons. It uses the desired payload capacity for given atmospheric conditions and determines the required volume, allowing users to design exactly to their requirements.
