WinSystems, Arlington, TX, released the PPC65B series IP65-rated panel PC in a thin, fanless design with an operating temperature range from -20 to +70 °C. The panel PC offers a rugged design for extreme environments and industrial IoT applications. The PCs accommodate panel and VESA mounting configurations; when mounted properly, the sealed front bezel provides protection against ingress from dust and moisture for industrial control applications. They support Linux and Windows 10 operating systems, use the 1.9-GHz Quad-Core Intel® Atom processor, and include up to 8 GB of RAM. High-resolution graphics at 1024 × 768 and 1280 × 1024 are accessed via a five-wire resistive touchscreen. The rugged design also incorporates a SATA controller with 2.5” HDD/SSD and input power of 12-24V DC. Optimal connectivity and I/O for embedded systems is achieved through two Gigabit Ethernet ports, a USB 2.0 port, and a USB 3.0 port. The series also includes options for expansion with RS-232/422/485 and USB.

New Products: October 2017 Motion Design

Torque Motor

ThinGap (Camarillo, CA) has developed the first member of a new motor family of high peak torque density brushless PM motors that reach over 20 Nm/Kg. The frameless LSI 105 torque motor model is 105 mm OD (4.125 inches) and 25.4 mm (1.0 inch) long. Continuous torque reaches over 2Nm (283 oz-in) in typical applications. The motor has torque ripple of less than -1%, and zero cogging. A frameless configuration is combined with large ID through-bores to ease assembly into OEM motion products. The efficient potted winding and thermally conductive structure provide heat transfer in enclosed places, and the motors also work with active cooling systems such as cooling loops or oil filled assemblies. Adjusting windings are available that cover common bus voltages and speed requirements.

Fiber Optic Cables

OFS (Norcross, GA) has expanded its AccuRibbon® DC Fiber Optic Cable product family to include fiber counts up to 864. Currently, AccuRibbon DC cables are offered in fiber counts up to 432. Super-absorbent polymer (SAP) tapes replace the gel in AccuRibbon DC cables to impede water migration in the cable core. These cables and water-blocking tapes have a 15-year, field- proven history in diverse outside plant (OSP) installations and applications. In addition to meeting Telcordia GR-20 Issue 4 requirements, the AccuRibbon DC cables have successfully met OFS’ aggressive coiling simulations where the cables are twisted and coiled under real-world installation conditions.

The Measuring Division of Kaman Precision Products, Middletown, CT, announced the OEM-2306 non-contact linear displacement measuring instrument using eddy current technology. The board is factory-configured for each specific setup, enabling its integration into OEM equipment. It serves as a replacement for LVDTs, air gauges, dial indicators, and micrometers. Features include resolution of 0.01%FS, frequency response of 50 KHz (-3 dB point), nonlinearity <1%FS typical, thermal sensitivity standard 0.1%FS/°F, and output options of 0-10 VDC (standard) and 0-5 VDC, ±5 VDC. Brushless AC Servo Motors

Allied Motion Technologies (Amherst, NY) introduced the HeiMotion™ Premium (HMP) brushless AC servo motor family. The motors, which have a 20,000+ hour life span, are available in five metric frame sizes with rated torque from 0.12 up to 14.4 Nm, and continuous shaft power from 50 W to 3.75 kW. Standard flange sizes include 40, 60, 80, 100, and 130 mm. Top speed ranges from 2,000 to 9,000 RPM; holding torque goes from 0.18 to 18.5 Nm; and winding voltage choices extend from 48 V up to 560 V. Optional features include standard resolver or encoder (including single cable HIPERFACE® DSL interface), holding brake, and connector choices.

Harwin, Salem, NH, announced the SYCAMORE surface-mount socket that provides pin retention and durability for high-volume applications manufactured using automated systems. The capacitor's design features three points of contact, providing continuity and robustness. Key markets include gas detection systems, metering systems, and other applications that require modules and devices such as field-replaceable parts or temperature-sensitive components to be mounted to a printed circuit board. The single-part SMT socket design features a profile of 0.3 mm above the PCB. Available in top and bottom entry versions, it accepts 1.0 or 1.50 mm-diameter pins, and is open-ended for unlimited mating pin depth. It is manufactured from beryllium copper, and contacts are gold-plated to ensure high conductivity over a temperature range of -50 to +125 °C.
