Software Schedules Missions, Aids Project Management
KBSI has established a reputation for excellence in turning research results into innovative commercial technologies. KBSI has been awarded a number of major research and development contracts. An early success that helped develop some of the company's infrastructure methods and tools was the Information Integration for Concurrent Engineering (IICE) project, conducted for the US Air Force. KBSI's research solutions were then systematically and aggressively transitioned to state-of-the-art software products - products that have benefited users worldwide.

00:00:01 every good project has a plan and needs to stay on a schedule this is especially true for the people who prepare the next NASA Shuttle for a launch it's a big job especially when a distributed team is trying to coordinate different resources and possible configurations for payload but it's a job made easier by using special software for some time a small firm in College Station Texas called
00:00:27 knowledge-based Systems Incorporated or KBs SI has been partnering with NASA to develop unique software programs to meet Mission needs it began with a contract from Johnson Space Center to the small business Innovation research or sbir program kbsi developed the knowledge aided Mission planning system or camps camps showed that such a software program would be helpful in planning and
00:00:53 scheduling missions since NASA's planning also requires information and knowledge from a wide variety of sources kbsi developed the ontology driven information integration or ODI under another sbir award from Johnson ODI Which models the meaning of terminology has a variety of applications throughout NASA the Department of Defense and the missile defense agency it's used for
00:01:20 distributed training simulator integration threat detection and example-based semantic searching through complex information following the successes of camps and OD I engineers at Kennedy Space Center worked with kbsi through another sbir award to develop a software tool called the optimization modeling assistant or om Oma was a set of of software tools to facilitate the
00:01:48 manager and enable him to actually formulate his own optimization models elements of om have been transferred to the Air Force and have been commercialized in kbsi Pro SIM product used to model shuttle process flows the Pro SIM has uh a set of functions in it that automate a simulation model design from a user's process description Kennedy awarded the firm another SBI
00:02:16 contract to develop a software tool called range process simulation tool or rpst which could not only plan and schedule their Spaceport activities but also simulate the activities and Resources by using models rpst assesses a Project's operational performance and how changes will affect the performance with a phase 3 award kbsi enhanced matured and applied The Works Sim tool
00:02:42 to US Army Blackhawk helicopter and Patriot missile maintenance again with NASA sbir funding kbsi developed the toolkit for enabling adaptive modeling and simulation or teams the United space Alliance now uses teams plus to develop maintain Main and reconfigure their operations analysis models you could actually change visually the schedule for a a complete
00:03:10 process or the duration of the task length of one step in a process and it would immediately propagate through all of the other processes as you know as you were making the change today while components from Team software are used at a commercial Shipyard and at Tinker Air Force Base KBs I is continuing to mature their products for nessa's future missions
