DARPA Challenge Winner Transforms from Standing to Walking and Kneeling

Launched in response to a humanitarian need during the nuclear disaster at Fukushima, Japan, in 2011, the DARPA Robotics Challenge has consisted of increasingly demanding annual competitions. The goal was to accelerate progress in robotics and hasten the day when robots have sufficient dexterity and robustness to enter areas too dangerous for humans and mitigate the impacts of natural or man-made disasters. The 2015 DRC was just held June 5-6 in Pomona, CA, with Team KAIST of Daejeon, Republic of Korea, and its robot DRC-Hubo taking top honors. DRC-Hubo is the latest version of HUBO, which stands for 'HUmanoid roBOt' and has been developed since 2002. It can transform from a standing position, used for biped walking, to a kneeling pose that is meant for wheeled and fast motion.

00:00:08 [Music] my name is Jong I represent Tim Ka when I was young there are so many animation about robot it's kind of humanoid in Korea the techon Bui is a very famous robot [Music] but I don't think there is reality just animation when I was in University

00:00:38 students there is a kind of a science exhibition there is a kr1 robot uh Made It by K our robot is very unique because it can transform from the standing position to the bipedal walking to the kneeling POS and also he has more powerful joint it's just a motor but we have we equip the air conditioning system on that we make the hardware whole sofware we

00:01:14 redesign or we remade it we prepare N9 or 10 hours every day minimum we struggling every day everything is challenging but the most is driving and and walking is is also ped walking is very dangerous and very difficult to the hum so it's very challenging we have a passion The Pride for the technology in South Korea they have R to Ching and

00:01:47 supporting us they want to see the very successful performance in final we're going to show you the good performance in in fin a government and South Korean they have a pride they have pride of us they really pride of our technology we want to try to be one of the best team they're going to be happy very happy actually the DC finer is Olympics

00:02:23 of Robotics engineering that we are the engineering so we want to be the best in our region I really want to be winner
