Immunotherapy: Drug Harnesses Immune System Against Cancer

Certain types of immune cells called regulatory T-cells, while vital for a balanced immune system, can hinder the cancer-killing process. Targeting these cells without affecting other immune cells in the past has been difficult. A new drug can stop regulatory T-cells from working while leaving other immune cells intact to fight the cancer cells. Watch this drug in action in this short animation. “TIL therapy shifts the power back to the immune system to overcome the abnormal microenvironment inside a tumor that allows the cancer to grow unchecked by the immune system,” said Kai He, MD, PhD  .
