Sound Waves + X-Rays = Ability to See Through Metal

How do you detect voids and defects in a solid metal part? Purdue University researchers know. They’re using both ultrasonic waves and X-ray CT to “see inside” manufactured objects nondestructively. Watch this video to learn more.

“Characterization is so important,” said Luz Sotelo  , assistant professor of mechanical engineering. “Material properties are going to have an impact on the part, even on the microstructure level.”
