Traditional material testing struggles with limited data points, slowing innovation in aerospace, automotive, and beyond. Digital testing revolutionizes this by delivering thousands of precise measurements, increasing precision, reducing time and samples needed.
This 60-minute webinar will explore ASTM-certified optical 3D testing, showcasing how automation enhances accuracy and efficiency. The program will include a live demo of cutting-edge tools streamlining workflows for high-throughput testing. An audience Q&A session will follow the technical presentation.
Key topics include:
- ASTM-compliant measurement certification
- Automated laser-based sample preparation
- Streamlined camera setup and data processing
- Live demo of non-contact 3D testing

Speaker:
John Tyson II, President, Trilion Quality Systems

John Tyson II, PE, is the President of Trilion Quality Systems, a manufacturer and developer of advanced optical measurement systems, which he founded in 1998. He has pioneered laser-based and optical inspection methods for more than 35 years, focusing on holography, shearography, digital image correlation, photogrammetry, and thermography. John has twelve patents in the field and developed test methods for the B2, Space Shuttle, and other advanced aircraft and spacecraft as well as for automotive and microelectronics. With his founding of Trilion, John pioneered quality inspection and measurements in composites and beyond — the initial development of the B-2 in the mid-1980s to working on the General Atomics composite aircraft and the Joby Aviation AAM aircraft. With cutting-edge work on Space Shuttle Return-to-Flight (2005) and emergency on-pad Suttle inspections for Discovery’s last flight (2010), he and his company have supported most NASA research facilities, from testing entire rocket assemblies at Marshall, hot-fired rocket testing at Stennis, and supporting Blue Origin and SpaceX. He teaches and lectures extensively, has authored numerous papers and peer-reviewed journal articles, and has chaired association committees. John is co-founder of the Laser Methods Group of American Society for Nondestructive Testing and authored the TC-1A Nondestructive Testing requirements for Laser Shearography. He authored the Optical Leaking Testing Method in MIL-STD-883 for the testing of microelectronics and has worked on ASTM, CHM-17, JEDEC, and iDICs committees for furthering standards in the industry. John holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and materials science from Duke University and is a professional engineer.
