3D-Printed Plastic Skull Successfully Implanted in Patient
Neurosurgeons at Netherlands' University Medical Center Utrecht successful performed an operation implanting a customized plastic skull in a 22-year old woman. The patient was suffering from headaches due to the thickening of her skull, and had slowly lost her eyesight. The 23-hour operation was led by neurosurgeon Dr. Bon Verweij, who worked with Anatomics, an Australian company specializing in 3D printing. Three months after the procedure, the patient's pain is gone and she has regained her vision. In this video, the doctors describe the procedure in Dutch.
