'BionicFinWave' Underwater Robot Propels Itself with Wave-Like Fins

Cuttlefish propel themselves by using their fins to generate a continuous wave, which advances along their entire length. Inspired by this undulating fin movement, Festo  has created 'BionicFinWave.' BionicFinWave uses its two side fins, completely cast from flexible silicone, to move along. The wave-shaped movement of the fins allows the fish to push the water behind them, creating a forward thrust. The autonomous underwater robot can communicate with the outside world wirelessly and transmit data, like recorded sensor values for temperature and pressure, to a tablet.
