Linex Manufacturing Overcomes Inspection Challenges

A move to Renishaw’s Equator™ 300 automated gauging system gave Linex Manufacturing all the inspection speed and accuracy it needed. However, on a project implemented before the larger Equator™ 500 was available, bolt holes on the extremities of a workpiece lay just outside the gauge’s working envelope. When standard styli and stylus extensions could not reach, an additively manufactured custom stylus provided the answer.

00:00:04 [Music] manufacturing is a division of linomar corporation and it's a company which produces precision machining automotive components the problem we initially had was that the working envelope of equator 300 could not reach the measurement of the 11 millimeter bolt holes used to

00:00:32 assemble our part the front support to its mating assembly component it was required to implement a long conventional l-shape assembly styling to be able to reach these holes when linux approached us with the challenges they were having with an equator application and the stylus that they were using we decided to look at added manufacturing to come up with a

00:00:57 monolithic design for the stylus to help us improve the measurement quality coming off the equator some of the things we had to look at in that process was we needed to maintain a specific weight for the stylus we also looked at the we had to take into consideration the stiffness of the stylus with the triggering

00:01:18 we then printed uh multiple variations of the style eye we then machined those on our five axis to mount them into the equator we then looked at testing the style against the original design in order to benchmark and validate that the new monolithic design was actually more robust and repeatable than the original

00:01:44 the equator system is very flexible and can support multiple style eye including custom styling after the custom style i was printed we found that the repeatability had greatly improved [Music] there are multiple benefits of the new style design and i will name few of them no frequent adjustments and or probe

00:02:08 calibration required due to its robust design approach accuracy and reputability results within acceptable limits stability accuracy over the time maintained within five percent limit and no frequent production interruptions with the effect of lust of productivity within short time renishaw team they've done their homework and came up with a new 3d printed style design which proved

00:02:33 to be a robust design from one piece with no attached components [Music]
