Application Spotlight: Servo System Smooths Out Rough Spots for Laser Cutting Manufacturer

Changing a key component supplier in the middle of a pandemic is a tough undertaking for any machine builder. Despite the challenges, the people at Kern Laser Systems were able to make a surprisingly smooth transition with their flagship OptiFlex laser cutting system. 00:00:04 [Music] thank you [Music] the optiflex is a very versatile laser machine you can cut and engrave many different materials all in one machine it's also highly accurate got a high repeatability it's just really easy for the customer to use they do training for a few hours

00:00:56 and they're cutting or engraving parts I think the toughest thing is just the overall mechanics of the system getting the servo Motors in sync and getting the Gantry and everything moving together so we're not fighting against each other on the motors and twisting things prior to going to Yaskawa we used a couple of different cerebral companies and the tuning was fairly difficult to get to

00:01:22 the point where we had those boilerplate numbers I've really been impressed with the sigma wind software from Yaskawa we're able to tune the motors all together and that has helped significantly in the tuning part the other part that's huge in comparison to the other Servo companies is the support we received from Yaskawa literally if I call them

00:01:44 with a question he'd probably be here tomorrow I called him on the phone and I said I have a question about this he said I'll be there in an hour and a half he was already pointed out this direction Matt has walked us through pretty much every system that we've tuned probably spent a couple hours per machine the changeover was really fast we literally

00:02:05 got to the point where we weren't guaranteed any kind of a lead time through the supplier we had for many years Yaskawa was able to provide product on a short lead time enough to keep us going and we're able to stay in business and ship machines that was huge it's been great working with Yaskawa and we look forward to working with them a long time into the future
