Where Better Batteries Meet Real-World Mobility

Driven by the need for lighter, safer, longer-lasting, and lower-cost energy storage, this work bridges cutting-edge battery science with real-world impact. Through deep collaboration with automakers like GM and Ford, academic research is accelerating from the lab to the road—while training the next generation of engineers to solve practical mobility challenges. It’s a model for how battery innovation moves faster when education, industry, and electrification align.

00:00:05 The focus of my research uh it really uh originates from the needs that we really need a better energy storage solutions for us to have the batteries last longer, be lighter and safer and low cost. She has become one of the major researchers in the mobility industry. Um many of the automotive companies are looking to her for battery technologies. I started the research on batteries

00:00:31 since my undergrad study and I started to realize that without the modern lithium ion batteries actually the the portable electronics just uh impossible because the previous older version of batteries it just don't have enough uh energy density to make them small enough and light enough so that we can use for portable electronics. The benefits are are huge everything from you know

00:00:53 consumer electronics all the way to electric vehicles. Business connect has been helped us to build the collaboration with General Motors and Ford uh a lot and that really helped us to uh facilitate uh the research and launch the project much quicker and smoothly. She is kind of a model for the university's mission across all three characteristics that the university does

00:01:15 business. We are a research institution and she's a phenomenal research faculty member. She has a teaching component to that as well. She is the economic development and service mission kind of embedded inside of her work as well. Big part of my passion that uh we can train the next generation engineers that really set the standards uh really high so that they are not only familiar with

00:01:36 the uh material science uh in the lab but also they know the real world problem and they can solve real world problem. That is the part that I'm most proud of that the training I provide to my students. The award really give me a lot of confidence saying that I'm doing the right way. I'm on the right track to fulfill my dreams. Really proud to congratulate you for this award. This is

00:01:58 a fantastic achievement and we look forward to continuing the relationship.
