The CA2 metric tie rod cylinder series from SMC Corp. of America (Indianapolis, IN) features aluminum die-cast covers to reduce weight. Cushioning capabilities were improved by increasing the volume of the cushion chamber and by using a floating cushion seal. The seal reduces movements of the piston rod at lower operating temperatures. The new design features allow 30% more kinetic energy absorption during the cushioning at the end of the stroke.
