NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center has developed a prototype of an advanced resistive exercise device (ARED) that can perform a number of different exercises on one machine. Conceived to help astronauts maintain strength and endurance in low-gravity environments, the ARED could also be advantageous in terrestrial settings.
NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory has developed electronic circuitry to serve as an interface between an electronic tongue and digital input/output boards in a laptop computer that is used to control the tongue and process its readings. Electronic tongues can be used for applications such evaluating water quality.
NASA's Ames Research Center has developed a new lightweight thermal protection system for atmospheric entry called Toughened Uni-piece Fibrous Reinforced Oxidation-resistant Composite (TUFROG). The material withstands up to 1,970 K to protect wing leading edges and nose caps on hypersonic vehicles.
