Our lead story today highlighted a metal-free battery that degrades on demand. While a cobalt-less battery has its sustainability benefits, more work will need to be done for the Texas A&M-developed technology to compete with the lithium-ion standard.
“For these batteries to gain mainstream adoption, the battery's capacity and cycle life must be improved,” Texas A&M researcher Dr. Jodie Lutkenhaus told Tech Briefs.
The initial capacity of the metal-free battery is about 30% of a lithium-ion battery, said the professor.
