Overview of the REVO® 5-axis Multi-sensor System’s Technical Features

Unlike conventional CMM systems, the REVO system uses synchronized motion and 5-axis measurement technology to minimize the dynamic effects of coordinate measurement machine (CMM) motion at ultra-high measurement speeds. This is achieved by letting the REVO-2 head do the fast-demanding motion while the CMM moves in a linear slow fashion. The use of a flexible tip-sensing probe further adds to the system's accuracy and performance. The removable probe system offers five specialized sensors including scanning, surface finish and structured light measurement, which used in conjunction with a low-cost changer, provide added flexibility and reduce capital expenditure.

00:00:00 [Music] in this video we're going to take a quick look at the basics of how Revo and its five axes multi-sensor system works here we have the Revo head itself this has obviously cable feed to it through the machine and also an air supply for its air bearings we have a B axis and an A axis so the B axis rotates continuously and the a axis rotates from

00:00:31 minus 102 plus 120 degrees right now we're showing it with the RSP to probe which is the basic probe that everybody would use on a Revo head we have the stylus holders which come in a range of lengths I'm showing here the longest one which is an RS H 500 these fit onto the probe and the probe onto the head using a magnetic kinematic joint now one of the things with Revo is that we can

00:00:57 maintain accuracy over a range of stylus lengths this is because we actually shine a laser down this hollow carbon fiber tube and the retroreflector is based at the same place only about 10 millimeters away from a stylus ball regardless of stylus holder length with this infinite positioning capability Revo can do an incredible amount of measurement with a single stylus

00:01:19 therefore the accuracy is maintained across the full range of stylus holders we collect data by actually measuring the bend of the stylus tip this is a very light force similar to a touch trigger type of force so it's been about 8 grams so the bending is minut but we're able to sample the change in path of the returned laser beam at 4 kilohertz which gives us a high rate of

00:01:44 data collection so that's basically how Revo and our SP 2 collects part data you [Music]
