Advances in Digital Image Correlation

Digital image correlation (DIC) is a non-contact optical method for measuring full-field (or areal) deformation, strain, and/or vibration on a given material with applications across industries such as ballistics, automotive, aerospace, robotics, electronics, medical, and more. DIC breaks outside of the normal single data-point technologies and now toward full-area or volume measurements and offer engineers access to data they would not be able to probe elsewise. In this interview, Kyle Gilroy, Application Development Manager at Ametek talks about the latest advances in DIC and how it’s become a versatile tool for engineers to optimize their designs, troubleshoot complex tests, and better quantify scientific experiments.
