Bookham (San Jose, CA) has introduced a high-power, uncooled multimode pump laser module for fiber laser pumping that combines high power with high reliability and stable performance. The new multimode pump laser module offers increased brightness and higher reliability than previous modules. The uncooled module, incorporating the latest generation of multimode pump laser chips from the Bookham Zurich facility, delivers more than 7 W of output power from a multimode fiber with 105-mm core diameter and NA of 0.15 or 0.22. The hermetic module with floating anode/cathode is available in various packaging form factors. The Bookham proprietary E2 process passivates the laser’s front mirror to prevent Catastrophic Optical Mirror Damage (COMD), a common problem in the development of high-brightness GaAs laser diodes.
