SolidWorks® 2008 3D CAD software from SolidWorks Corp. (Concord, MA) has been named NASA Tech Briefs' Product of the Month for August. The latest version of the software features a new user interface and 3D graphics, an enhancement of the SolidWorks Intelligent Feature Technology (SWIFT), and advanced design analysis capabilities. A new intuitive workflow predicts which tools users will need in the context of a specific task, and makes them readily available. SWIFT Instant3D lets users create and modify 3D model features by manipulating drag handles directly on the model. Users can make edits by dragging edges while looking at a slice of the model. SWIFT DimXpert automatically sets geometric dimensions and tolerances on parts, and provides visual feedback on whether the model has been described properly and is ready for manufacturing.
