Even with the best of intentions, governments can find it difficult to provide enough electricity to meet the load requirements of small villages. A simple photovoltaic system, developed in India, brings electrical independence to many outlying areas that do not currently have a reliable mains connection. The technology’s mirrors capture additional solar radiation and channel it to the panel. The water circulates behind the panel and cools it, increasing electrical output and providing domestic hot water.
The panel’s innovative factor is the addition of heat pipes to the V-trough concentrator, which serves the dual purpose of cooling the panel and providing the hot water. The addition of a solar tracking apparatus also maximizes the ability of the panel to gather sunlight.
