L-3 Infrared Products (Dallas, TX) has launched the first commercially available high-resolution Thermal-Eye Series 17-640 thermal imager. The 17-640 features a high-performance amorphous silicon uncooled IR sensor with a fast response time and advanced imaging processing. Its reduced size also increases flexibility; optics can be smaller and lighter and still achieve the same range performance as a 25 μm offering.

Available in three configurations, the 17-640 can be purchased with or without a lens in analog or digital format. The dual mini no-lens configuration is suitable for solutions that require a small form factor. For optics there are three field-of-view options: 14°, 28°, and 55° lens. The user interface is designed for OEM customization and has a programmable electronic zoom sequence, expansion port for video processing, and real-time control of touch up parameters.
