WattAnyWhere’s pollutant-free fuel cell generator converts renewable ethanol into clean electricity, offering businesses and communities a sustainable alternative to traditional grid-based power.

WHAT

WattAnyWhere’s genset uses electrochemistry instead of combustion: an ethanol fuel-cell generator based on solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) with no moving parts — designed for quieter, cleaner, lower-maintenance operations and reliable power where the grid can’t. Unlike hydrogen, which must be stored under high pressure or at extremely low temperatures, ethanol is a stable liquid fuel that can be easily stored and transported using existing tanks and trucks. In addition, ethanol is sustainably sourced. Most of today’s renewable ethanol in Europe is produced from sugar fermentation residue, crop residues, or other biomass byproducts that would otherwise degrade and emit carbon dioxide. This makes ethanol truly circular, using what would otherwise be waste. It also reduces reliance on coal emissions, enabling carbon credits, with negative GHG impact and no harmful pollutants like NOx or SOx.

WHY

Unlike hydrogen (explosive), ammonia or methanol (toxic), ethanol is safe to handle and transport. No specialized pressure vessels or safety systems are required.

WHEN

In October 2025, WattAnyWhere conducted a full-scale demonstration of its ethanol generator on the A10 motorway at the Shell service station in Val Neuvy, France. The unit delivered up to 12 kW of low-carbon electricity in autonomous operation, demonstrating the solution’s ability to supplement existing energy supplies.
