EXPERIENCE

Ipsita Mohanty is Co-Founder of QApp and Vice Chair of IEEE Women in Engineering, Santa Clara Valley. An AI entrepreneur, researcher, and industry leader, she previously served as Principal ML Engineer at Salesforce, where she spearheaded the launch of Tableau Agents, a multimodal, multi-agent RAG system transforming natural language to visualization. She has also led AI initiatives at Walmart Labs and Goldman Sachs, and has been honored with multiple global AI leadership awards.

What’s the most exciting part of your work?

The most exciting part of my work is transforming how people and organizations engage with data through Agentic RAG and multimodal AI systems. From leading the launch of Tableau Agents at Salesforce to sponsoring scholarships and organizing global IEEE AI summits, I find fulfillment in bridging research, industry, and community. Creating technology that is both innovative and inclusive inspires me every day, especially when it empowers greater equity and opportunity in STEM.

What is one major challenge you’ve faced in your career and how did you overcome it?

One major challenge I faced was returning to graduate school for my Masters at Carnegie Mellon after nearly eight years in industry. Balancing academic rigor with professional experience required adaptability and resilience. Rather than seeing the gap as a limitation, I leveraged my real-world expertise to enrich research and collaboration. This decision strengthened my foundation in AI, accelerated my leadership journey, and proved that continuous learning is key to driving lasting innovation.

What advice do you have for young women engineers aspiring to be leaders?

My advice to young women engineers is to lead with both innovation and responsibility. Technical excellence is essential, but authentic leadership in AI means designing systems that are ethical, inclusive, and trustworthy. Stay curious, speak up for fairness, and embed integrity into your work. As you grow, remember that leadership is not just about solving problems, but also about ensuring technology benefits all communities and future generations.
